Thanks for coming to Team Delic, the online home of Amer Delic and his fans. We hope to provide you with constant updates from the road with the Big Bozz himself, and all of his results as he makes his way into the Top 100: (Updated by Mike Cation)
Also, if you have a photo that you took of Amer (or with Amer) that you'd like to contribute, send it to info@amerdelic.com and we will post them here.
February 2 - First off, we've been a bit overwhelmed by the emails and shirt requests over the last couple of weeks. Please know that I'm trying to catch back up, and while Amer might not respond, he's at least reading all of the emails. I know that he's quite appreciative of all the support, and it's been a bit overwhelming for him too.
He is back in action this week after accepting a wild card to play in Dallas, which I know is one of his favorite tournaments of the year. It's also one of mine, simply because in years past, they have a web cam set up on at least one court, with running commentary. So much fun. Last year, I believe Bruno Echaguary blew up, and they had it on webcam. Awesome stuff.
Here is the link for this week's tournament. Enjoy, and again, we will be trying to respond to all the emails/shirt requests as soon as possible!
January 23 - Amer lost to Novak Djokovic in four sets last night. That's the basic story. There's so much more.
January 21 - The news page appears to have broken down, which we apologize for. The updates for the last few days are gone, as well as the last couple of months, so we're starting back over from scratch.
We first want to wish congratulations to Amer for another well played match, his first ever comeback from two sets down. Two straight five setters. Amazing. I don't know that he could have done this a couple of years ago.
It's also the first time he's reached the 3rd round of a major. That is a spectacular accomplishment.
He's also among the top 10 in aces in the tournament now.
And he's gotten a TON of publicity.
We also want to take this time to address the Bosnian fans, who are in the midst of this controversy:
Controversy here
So here we go. Keep supporting Amer. We want to see you out there as Amer battles Novak. But do it in a civil way. Emotions can certainly run high on Friday. We hope that you all will handle it with class, and support Big Bozz. And allow Amer and Novak to focus on playing a high intensity match. We're sure you will.
I'm sure Amer will write more about this as well, but that's it from the U-S section of Team Delic.
And on a personal note, Amer, I'm very happy for you. Now keep it rolling.
I've had the pleasure of watching Amer play for 8 years now. Last night was one of the best matches I've seen him play. Obviously, he played well, but more importantly, it was the happy, smiling Amer. When he gets in that mood, and you can see him getting pumped up, doing the fist pump, pointing at people in the crowd, that's when he's going to be playing well. He played a great match. Maybe the best I've ever seen from him, with the exception of the 2006 Champaign Challenger, when he made 2 errors in one set.
I also want to salute the Bosnians for their support during the match, and during the matches previous. Amer does tend to play much better with a boisterous, supportive crowd, and you could see it this week. That being said, it is disappointing to see what happened after the match. I know that personally, I can't begin to comprehend the politics and emotions involved in the conflict. I do know that both Amer and Novak handled it impeccably last night, and both were complimentary of the other's play. And they should both be proud.
Some other notes: As of Thursday's matches, Amer leads the tournament in aces, with 70, and Andy Roddick is #2 at 50. Pretty awesome.
This also is Amer's largest point total for one week, at, I believe, 114. He will certainly move up when the rankings are released in a week, although he did have a second round result (plus qualifying) to defend. The point totals did change for the majors this year.
I haven't checked, but I am 95% sure that this will be Amer's largest single week paycheck as well. I believe it translates to $31,772 US, plus what he would have earned for qualifying.
Again, this was a spectacular week. Lots of air time here in the states, and obviously some brilliant tennis, so congrats to Amer, and hopefully, he can keep this level of play up for a while.
